Mallard Bend Campground: Sheridan, IL

Mallard Bend is a private campground near Silver Springs State Park, on the Fox River. The youth site there is right on the water, and makes a great location for a canoe trip. They sell firewood there for $5 per bundle, and have a fire ring in the campsite. There is a small pool as well as a swimming pond with a little beach. Pit toilets are right across the field, and there are flush toilets and showers available a short walk farther. We rented canoes from a place in Yorkville, called Freeman's Sports. They are on the river in Yorkville, and the trip down river to the campsite is 12.5 miles with no portages. Freeman's will pick up the canoes and return the drivers to their cars for a small fee.
